Ponder ISD Welcomes New Principal for Ponder Elementary School

Ponder Independent School District is thrilled to announce the appointment of Mrs. Heather Thornburg as the new principal of Ponder Elementary School. With a rich history spanning 23 years in the field of education, Mrs. Thornburg brings a wealth of experience and commitment to fostering student-focused and growth-oriented learning for all students.

Throughout her distinguished career, Mrs. Thornburg has accumulated 18 years of valuable experience in Title I schools, demonstrating a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities associated with such educational settings. Her passion for student advocacy across diverse learning populations has been a hallmark of her leadership.

For the past two years, Mrs. Thornburg has served the Ponder community as the Assistant Principal for Ponder Jr. High, earning the respect and admiration of students, parents, and colleagues alike. Before joining Ponder ISD, she held key roles at Borman Elementary in Denton ISD including International Baccalaureate Coordinator and 504/Testing Coordinator.. Mrs. Thornburg's educational journey also includes time as the Intermediate School Assistant Principal in Little Elm ISD, and she has taught students ranging from Kindergarten through 6th grade.

Mrs. Thornburg holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Lubbock Christian University and a Master's in Education from the University of Texas at Brownsville.

Mrs. Thornburg will begin at Ponder Elementary on February 1. The entire Ponder ISD community eagerly anticipates the positive contributions Mrs. Heather Thornburg will make in her role as the principal of Ponder Elementary School, continuing the district's tradition of providing high-quality education and support to all students.
