Library Mission Statement

The mission of the Ponder ISD school libraries is to:

  • Support the educational goals of the school by providing resources that complement and enhance the curriculum.

  • Promote a love of reading and learning by offering a diverse range of materials and programs.

  • Equip students and staff with the skills necessary to effectively locate, evaluate, and use information.

We believe the library is more than just a place to check out books — it’s a dynamic learning environment that empowers students to explore new ideas, develop critical thinking skills, and connect with the world around them.

Library Hours

Each school library is open during regular school hours, with extended hours available for special programs or events. Contact your campus library for specific hours and access information.

Technology Integration

Our libraries provide access to the latest educational technology, including computers, tablets, and other multimedia tools, to enhance learning opportunities for students.

Streaming Services & Online Learning Platforms

Students and staff have access to a variety of online platforms that support both academic learning and personal development, such as educational video streaming and digital textbooks.

Online Databases

Ponder ISD subscribes to a variety of online databases for student research, including:

  • Britannica School

  • Gale Databases

  • Learn 360

  • TeachingBooks

  • and more...

These databases are available to all students and staff from within their Classlink Launchpad, and they provide credible, age-appropriate content for academic research.

Selection of Library Materials

Library materials will be selected based on several key criteria to ensure they meet the needs of students and staff. These criteria include relevance, ensuring materials support the curriculum and educational goals; accuracy, meaning the information must be factual, up-to-date, and reliable; and diversity, which emphasizes the importance of representing a wide range of perspectives, cultures, and viewpoints to promote inclusivity and a broad understanding of various topics. Additionally, materials should be age-appropriate, aligned with the developmental levels and interests of students, and have literary merit, contributing positively to students' reading experiences. The selection process for library materials, including donations, will adhere to Board Policy and Guidelines. Materials will be considered based on favorable reviews from reputable professional journals. For materials lacking professional reviews, librarians will use their discretion, taking into account the publisher and author’s reputation, curricular needs, and endorsements. Furthermore, additional sources such as award lists, reading lists, and vendor-generated recommendations will be consulted, with priority given to professional reviews.

Materials gifted to the library will be evaluated using the same criteria as purchased materials, ensuring they align with the library's collection goals. The library reserves the right to accept or decline gifts based on their relevance to the curriculum and the needs of the collection. Once accepted, gift materials will be processed and cataloged in the same manner as purchased materials, ensuring consistency and organization within the library's holdings.
